Un atacante murió y otras dos personas resultaron heridas en un atentado cerca del consulado israelí en Estambul. Dos agentes de policía también sufrieron heridas leves, según informó Davut Gul, gobernador de Estambul.
Fuerzas especiales turcas fueron vistas en la zona inmediatamente después de un período de tiroteo sostenido.
El consulado no contaba con personal en el momento del incidente, según declaró un portavoz del Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores israelí.
El ministro de Justicia turco, Akin Gurlek, publicó en X que se había iniciado una investigación sobre los disparos ocurridos “en las inmediaciones del consulado israelí situado en el distrito de Beşiktaş de Estambul”.
El consulado está en el séptimo piso de un edificio del distrito.
Las autoridades israelíes han informado de un aumento sin precedentes en los intentos de perpetrar ataques contra israelíes y judíos en el extranjero desde el inicio del conflicto con Irán.
El Consejo de Seguridad Nacional de Israel (CSN) emitió una alerta de viaje reforzada antes de la festividad de la Pascua judía, citando un aumento significativo de las amenazas de Irán y sus aliados contra los israelíes y los lugares judíos en todo el mundo.
“Estamos presenciando un número récord de intentos de atentar contra israelíes y judíos en todo el mundo. Ni siquiera los veteranos más ancianos recuerdan una magnitud semejante”, declaró un funcionario israelí de lucha antiterrorista a CNN a finales del mes pasado.
