Viktor Orbán expects that, as time passes, almost day by day, “more and more of us will join the anti-war camp.” The head of government made this statement on Monday during his visit to the Vatican, speaking to the M1 news channel.
Responding to the suggestion that few world leaders stand up for peace, Viktor Orbán said that this is “an illusion” because the world is not represented by the Western world, where few stand on the side of peace. However, “taking into account the whole of humanity, the overwhelming majority is on the side of peace,” he stated. He cited the Arabs and the Far East, led by China and India, as examples, and noted that “the stronger half of the Western world,” the United States, is also on the side of peace.
The Prime Minister pointed out that in Central Europe, the pro-peace, anti-war Czechs are “making a comeback,” there are anti-war governments in Slovakia and Hungary, and “the tide is turning in Poland as well, but it will take time to see more clearly.”
I think that as economic problems grow in Western Europe, more and more countries are recognizing that we simply do not have the money to finance this war,”
he said, referring to the war in Ukraine.
Prime Minister Orbán, referring to his meeting with Pope Leo XIV, explained that “there is a hidden network of anti-war leaders in the world.” This network has “two focal points”: one is political, centered on the American President, and the other is spiritual or religious, from which “politicians fighting against war gain energy, motivation, commitment, blessings, and encouragement again and again;” this is located in the Vatican, with the Holy Father himself.
The Prime Minister emphasized that when the head of the Catholic Church consults with any of the warring parties, it is not against peace, but rather against war.

Orbán said of the peace summit in Budapest that it is an intention that has been mutually declared by the two negotiating parties.
In other words, “what is delayed will come,” but no one knows when, as the delegations are in constant negotiations with each other, but it is a fact that it will take place in Budapest,
he explained.
He referred to the last similar major peace summit, where peace was concluded in the Middle East; before that, the parties concerned had also negotiated for a long time, and then two days before, they indicated that there would be a signing.
Orbán also met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Monday. In the interview, which was recorded before the meeting, he indicated that they would certainly discuss the Russian-Ukrainian war and economic issues, because the European economy is “in extremely bad shape,” as well as migration, which is particularly affecting Italy, where previous “left-wing governments ruined things by letting migrants in.”
Great catching up with Prime Minister @GiorgiaMeloni in Rome! We talked about the war, Europe’s struggling economy, energy prices, and migration. Standing strong together, we’ll defend our nations. pic.twitter.com/6BcKYBx9vG

The Prime Minister emphasized: “Our problem is how to keep Hungary a migrant-free country despite pressure from Brussels.” A refugee camp capable of accommodating 30,000 migrants should already have been built, and migrants should be accepted, but in exchange for our resistance, “we have to pay Brussels one million euros a day as a reward,” he said. “We are still better off paying this than letting in migrants and ending up like other Western European countries that cannot find a way out of the crisis caused by the influx of migrants in Western Europe, both in terms of public safety and the economy,” Orbán argued.
