Prime Minister Viktor Orbán expects anti-war demonstrations to take place in both Germany and France within six months. At the anti-war meeting of the Digital Citizens’ Circles (DPK) in Szeged (southern Hungary) on Saturday, he also answered questions about the war in Ukraine.
Brussels has succeeded in averting an immediate threat of war, the Prime Minister replied when asked about the EU’s decision to drop the seizure of frozen Russian assets. Viktor Orbán explained that by seizing frozen Russian assets, Europe would have declared war on Russia, but “we caught the carrier pigeon in time.”
Taking away the assets of one of the warring parties and giving them to the other means that “you have entered the war (…) and are in it up to your neck,” he emphasized. The speaker also pointed out that money often plays a role after a war, as the loser is sometimes obliged to pay compensation, as was the case in Hungary after both world wars. This can be discussed once the war is over, but during the war, such a thing cannot be done, because that would mean “getting drawn into” the conflict, the head of government clarified.

Viktor Orbán said that the Belgian prime minister had played a key role in this action to save peace in Europe. He fought heroically, they stabbed him with red-hot iron bars, tore at his flesh with pliers for a whole day, maybe even weeks.
The experts, because they were Germans, were not joking,” and this man persevered, endured it, and remained steadfast, he explained.
The head of government emphasized that the collapse of Ukraine would be a major problem for Hungary. Not only is this not in Hungary’s interest, but much needs to be done to prevent it, he stressed. People in rural areas understand very well that the value of a property also depends on what the neighbors are like, what condition they are in, and who lives there, he continued.
For the first time in the history of the European Union, 24 member states have jointly granted a war loan to a country outside the Union. This is not a technical detail but a qualitative shift. The logic of a loan is clear: whoever lends money wants it back. In this case,… pic.twitter.com/jeBi6A2e29

It would be best if we were surrounded only by Austria, he noted. When asked whether we can continue to count on America’s support in Europe after the conflict ends, Viktor Orbán replied:
If Europeans believe that the Americans will protect them, they are greatly mistaken. Europe must be able to defend itself.”
We must not finance the Ukrainian army, but must strengthen the armies in western Ukraine and strengthen the European arms industry so that Europe is not at the mercy of anyone in the event of a conflict.

He also said that we should not trust European politicians to be sensible enough not to lead us into war. At the same time, he added that he trusts the people of Europe and expects that anti-war demonstrations will take place in both Germany and France within six months.
We must trust that the people will force peace from below, he emphasized.
Who wants this war to go on?
1️⃣ Politicians who think a nuclear power can be defeated on the battlefield.
2️⃣ Arms manufacturers profiting from endless conflict.
3️⃣ Bankers who’ve placed their bets on Russia’s military defeat. The people of Europe deserve better. Europe needs… pic.twitter.com/MDgGqn6Ju8

The head of government was also asked why European leaders support the war, what their motivation is, and whether there is a master plan behind it. Viktor Orbán replied: It is not that there is a master plan and an evil person sitting somewhere pulling the strings, but rather that everyone has started looking for ways to capitalize on the military conflict.
Some countries say the conflict must be used to weaken Russia as much as possible, while other countries perceive the Russians as a constant and immediate threat because they used to belong to the Soviet Union.”
And then there are the “great European traditions,” he continued, alluding to the fact that Russia had already been attacked by Napoleon and Hitler. “They did not succeed, but now Kaja Kallas will succeed,” he remarked ironically. The speaker pointed out that it is not Russian paintings that can be seen in the museums of Paris or Berlin, but spoils of war from Europe in Saint Petersburg. Viktor Orbán warned against messing with or attacking the Russians. In his opinion, Miklós Horthy did not want war with the Russians either, because, as he said, “if the Germans had not dragged us into it, we would not have gone to the Don River.”
Europe must be strong enough to stand on its own. Financing Ukraine drains Europe’s strength instead of adding to it. Strong borders, strong armies, strong defence industry. That should be the goal. pic.twitter.com/oWNihZT201
