On the occasion of Thursday’s meeting of EU leaders, the leaders of the Patriots for Europe party family issued a joint statement reaffirming their convictions on issues of key importance for the future of the continent and urging the restoration of Europe’s competitiveness and the protection of peace and sovereignty.
The statement rejected “the overly ideological green transition and green deal pushed by the European Commission.” They also demanded real bureaucracy reduction for businesses and a drastic reduction in energy prices in Europe. “Without these, Europe’s competitiveness cannot be restored,” they emphasized.
The leaders oppose the introduction of ETS2, an extended second version of the European Union’s emissions trading system, because they believe it would result in higher energy prices for the population. They also reject climate neutrality targets that would further weaken competitiveness. They called on EU institutions to present legislative proposals before the end of the year that would ensure tangible energy price reductions for citizens and businesses.
The statement welcomed the Madrid Declaration, which aims to protect prosperity, competitiveness, and jobs.

The leaders of the Patriots’ parties reiterated their opposition to the “flawed migration pact and its implementation.” They called for effective border protection and the rapid and effective repatriation of those residing illegally in the EU.
The statement also supports innovative solutions, such as platforms to be set up in non-EU countries to stop illegal migration and speed up returns.
In the statement, the leaders expressed their support for U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to bring peace to Ukraine and welcomed the possibility of Budapest hosting future peace talks. “This is a historic opportunity for peace in Europe. The European Union must do everything it can to support this process and must not hinder it with war rhetoric,” they said. At the same time, they warned that Ukraine’s accession to the EU “raises serious concerns” regarding the agricultural, labor market, and security situation of the member states. They emphasized their commitment to unanimous decision-making as enshrined in the EU treaties and demanded that the EU’s founding treaties, in particular the Copenhagen criteria, be fully respected.
They congratulated the Czech party Action of Dissatisfied Citizens (ANO) on its landslide victory in the elections, as well as the Patriotic Party of Motorists, which entered the Czech parliament for the first time. At the same time, they pledged their full support for the Dutch Freedom Party (PVV) and its leader, Geert Wilders, in next week’s elections, because in their opinion it is the only force “capable of taking action against mass immigration.”

In their statement, the Patriots also commemorated the Hungarian heroes who rose up against communist oppression on October 23, 1956, fighting for the freedom of their nation. “Their courage and sacrifice are a lasting reminder that sovereignty is never a given, but a responsibility that must always be defended,” they concluded.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán attended the EU leaders’ summit in Brussels on Thursday, following the commemoration of the 1956 revolution in Budapest.
