As part of the Fall Festival of Museums in October and November, the Stamp Museum in Budapest welcomes visitors with a variety of programs, including a quiz, a jewelry-making workshop, and a family day, where visitors can also design their own stamps.
For many decades, stamps were part of everyday life, conveying written messages, and stamp designs have reached countless people over the past centuries. “This was quickly recognized by various powers and representatives of a wide range of interests, hence today stamp images provide a fascinating snapshot of the important changes of past eras,” reads the institution’s press release.

As highlighted, from October 6 through November 15,
visitors can explore the connection between the facts and interpretations depicted on stamps through the “Reality on Stamps” quiz at the museum’s interactive permanent exhibition, which features half a million stamps.
Also running through mid-November is a competition called “Stamp Design with Artificial Intelligence—The Future of Hungary,” inviting participants to use AI tools to design stamps that showcase their vision of Hungary in 2076.
On October 12, a program will be organized for educators: museum staff will lead a guided tour and discussion to demonstrate how the cultural heritage preserved on millions of stamps can convey history and culture in a variety of ways, helping students engage with specific topics in an experiential manner, the announcement stated.
Hungarian wines, like many other national treasures, have also been featured on stamps, the press release emphasized, adding that
on October 13, Hungarian wines will be showcased at a fall-farewell wine tasting titled “On the Vineyards of Tokaj…”
At the event, István Nyikos, a founding member of the Hungarian Wine Academy, will present Tokaj wines, and a mini-exhibition will also be on display. The event will take place in the Stamp Museum’s nearly century-old exhibition hall, and will be complemented by musical and literary programs.

On October 31, participants can create stamp-themed jewelry and other accessories at the museum’s workshop. Visitors will have the opportunity to make stamp-shaped earrings, pendants, keychains, and refrigerator magnets. In addition, the museum’s permanent exhibition features real stamps that seem just as extraordinary, such as musical stamps or those made of gold.
A family day will be held on November 14. At this event tied to St. Martin’s Day, visitors can discover stamps depicting geese, as popular and cute motifs can be found among the tiny images alongside more serious topics.
