    The Magyar Vagon Group has reached a milestone in its corporate history. With the signing of a supply contract for 20 Intercity railcars for Slovenian Railways, the Hungarian rail vehicle manufacturer has made its long-awaited leap onto the international market.

    Having already established itself on the Hungarian domestic market with the production of modern “IC+” cars, the Magyar Vagon Group has now successfully demonstrated its expertise in an EU-wide tender process conducted by the passenger transport company of Slovenian State Railways (Potniski promet, d.o.o.). The contract signed in Ljubljana covers the delivery of a total of five train sets, reports Világgazdaság, citing a statement from the company.

    The order comprises the manufacture of a total of 20 railcars tailored to the needs of Slovenian State Railways.

    The package consists of:

    • 15 AB railcars: A combined configuration of first and second class.
    • 5 Combo-type railcars: They offer first-class, bicycle transport and dining car sections.

    The vehicles are technically based on the 92 units that have already been successfully produced for Hungarian State Railways (MÁV), but feature a modernized interior design and additional safety features such as automatic fire extinguishing systems. With a maximum speed of 200 km/h and full compliance with European interoperability standards (TSI), the fleet is equipped for modern cross-border transport.

    In addition to production, Magyar Vagon is providing a two-year warranty. Particularly noteworthy is the commitment to supply spare parts, that ensures 95 percent availability of the fleet throughout the warranty period. According to the company, technical flexibility and customer-oriented adaptation to Slovenian requirements were the decisive factors in winning the contract.

    With this export, we can finally prove that our self-developed IC+ cars are also competitive on the international stage,”

    emphasized CEO László Ludvig. The aim is to gain further market share in Europe with this reference. Delivery and commissioning of the new railcars is planned for the second half of 2028.

    The Magyar Vagon Group looks back on over 150 years of history in rail vehicle construction. With around 1,600 employees at seven locations in Hungary, the group is one of the most important players in regional heavy industry and combines traditional craftsmanship with modern engineering.
