Strategic cooperation exists between Hungary and the United States, particularly in the areas of energy policy and the economy, but there is also an ongoing exchange of views on major issues facing Western civilization, said Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Ahead of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance’s visit, the minister reported that Europe is taking massive steps toward a very serious energy crisis; natural gas and crude oil shortages could easily develop, leading to a dramatic rise in energy prices.
This is the consequence of the overly ideological, irrational energy policy in Brussels, under which Russian energy sources have been banned from the continent. In contrast, the United States is pursuing a sensible energy policy; as part of this, sanctions have recently been lifted, and Donald Trump has authorized Hungary—us—to purchase cheap Russian oil and cheap Russian gas,”
he emphasized.
“Without all of this, utility costs in Hungary would have tripled, and we too could have fallen victim to the energy crisis threatening Europe. Hungarian-American energy cooperation is therefore crucial for Hungary’s energy security and for safeguarding lower utility costs,” he added.
Péter Szijjártó emphasized that, similarly, economic cooperation between the two countries is also of great significance, having set new records last year.
“Trade between the two countries has never been as high as it was last year. Never before has there been as much investment from the U.S. to Hungary in a single year as there was last year, and the momentum continues. So far this year, our trade volume has increased by 50%, and in March alone, we announced six U.S. corporate investments in Hungary worth 100 billion forints (262 million euros),” he noted.
“Strategic cooperation between the two governments is therefore ongoing. There is a continuous exchange of ideas and experiences regarding the major issues of Western civilization, including family policy, gender, global security, and migration, and this strategic cooperation will continue,” he concluded.
