Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski met with World Bank representatives yesterday, and today, responding to a question from a journalist, he addressed the forecasts for the Macedonian economy. The World Bank has raised its growth forecast for the Macedonian economy for 2026 from 2.9 percent to 3.2 percent, with infrastructure projects expected to be among the main drivers of economic activity.
Mickoski noted that it is encouraging that Macedonia is the only country in the region where, according to him, the economic growth forecast is moving in a positive direction. “What is encouraging is the fact that we are the only country in the region where the adjustment—or rather, the revision—of the growth forecast is moving in a positive direction. We started the year with a GDP growth forecast of 2.6 percent; then the estimate was raised to 2.9 percent, and yesterday it reached 3.2 percent,” Mickoski said. He added that he expects GDP growth to be even higher this year.
“I am convinced that GDP growth this year will be between 3.5 and 4 percent, given that it has stood at 3.7 percent for the first half of the year so far,” the Prime Minister stated. According to him, Macedonia could also see one of the lowest inflation rates in the region. “I expect us to be a country with—if not the lowest—among the two or three lowest inflation rates in the region and Europe, and with—if not the highest—among the five highest GDP growth rates in the region and Europe,” said Mickoski.
