The goal of this year’s Eger Advent is to offer four weeks of community, cultural, and gastronomic experiences worthy of Eger’s values and festive traditions, said the city’s mayor.
Ákos Vágner emphasized that the renewed lights, high-quality programs, the presence of local wineries and restaurants, and charitable initiatives all combine to create the festive atmosphere of which the city is justifiably proud. Eger Advent is a place for gatherings: where families, friends, and old acquaintances come together, where spending time together and getting into the holiday spirit give Advent its true meaning, he added.
Speaking about the details, he explained that
On November 28, Eger’s festive lights will be lit, marking the start of the city’s four-week Advent program, which once again offers a special cultural and community experience this year. Dobó István Square and its surroundings will shine in new light this year, and visitors can also look forward to the familiar sights.
This year’s Christmas tree comes from the Lajosváros district of Eger. The 16.5-meter-high silver fir tree, along with nearly 500 meters of fairy lights, will be decorated in a completely new way: around 230 uniquely designed, laser-cut large decorations, a row of giant silk bows in purple, white, champagne and silver colors, and a new, more than half-meter-long illuminated top decoration will make it a magical sight.
He noted that this year’s gastronomic offerings at Eger Advent promise to be particularly diverse and sophisticated. Sixteen caterers will present their festive dishes at Dobó István Square, where visitors will also find classic Advent delicacies. A total of 11 wineries from the wine region will be represented at the fair’s stands through gastronomic collaborations. The region’s wines will thus be available both as hot drinks and in bottles. New to this year’s Eger Advent is a menu priced at 1,552 forints (4,03 euros), which visitors will find at all participating restaurants.
The Mayor emphasized that
the series of festive events will once again be held in the spirit of community cooperation: during the traditional charity mug sale, visitors can support the local Markhot Ferenc Hospital’s Infant, Pediatric and Neonatology Department with a donation of 500 forints (1,30 euros) by purchasing a uniquely designed porcelain mug.
In addition, the Ecumenical Aid Organization is joining Eger Advent this year, and its staff will be accepting monetary donations at the donation point set up in Dobó István Square from December 12 to 14.
This year, the Ice Palace awaits children with more colorful programs than ever before in the glass hall of the Town Hall, while visitors can get information at the Information Tree House on Dobó István Square, said Vágner, adding that all the important information about the series of events can be found on the website.
