The Castle Garden Bazaar (Várkert Bazár) at the foot of Buda Castle Hill will once again be transformed into a center of festivity this year. Visitors can expect a wide range of events from November 29 to December 31: from concerts, literary evenings, and dance performances to an exclusive arts and crafts market and an open-air exhibition.
The concert series features a top-class line-up. It kicks off on November 29 with the album presentation by Dániel Szebényi entitled “Újratervezés” (“Redesign”). The following day, the Sárik Péter Trio will be performing together with Krisztina Koszorus. December will be marked by some special musical highlights. Budapest Bár will give a double concert on December 7, and Honeybeast will perform their production “Összhang – nyitány” (“Harmony – Overture”) on December 13.
On December 17, Rezső Soltész and his band will be guests, offering symphonically arranged songs from their latest double album as well as Christmas classics such as “Silent Night” and ABBA’s “Happy New Year”. Rezső Soltész will be accompanied by the Szolnok Symphony Orchestra. On December 20, Hungarian-American singer Zóra Urbányi returns with a double concert, followed by the “Advent and Christmas” program of the St. Efrem Men’s Choir on December 21.
More highlights await at the end of the year. Ivan & The Parazol will perform on December 27, and the Modern Art Orchestra will celebrate its 20th anniversary on December 28 with a gala concert featuring guests such as Veronika Harcsa and Franciska Törőcsik. Random Trip will traditionally perform on New Year’s Eve, while the audience will celebrate New Year’s Eve with an electronic dance music party by Be Massive.
The music program will be complemented by cultural performances. On December 14, the Hungarian National Dance Ensemble will perform the piece “Téli tánc” (“Winter Dance”), reviving old Hungarian traditions. In addition, the literary evening “Aposztróf” on December 18 will feature renowned guests such as Petra Gubik and Misi Mező.
For families, the festive season begins on St. Nicholas Family Day (December 6) with a performance by the Kolompos Ensemble.
On Advent Sundays, anyone interested is invited to free craft workshops where Advent wreaths and small decorations can be made in the auditorium of the event room.
An exclusive arts and crafts market will take place on two weekends (December 12 to 14 and December 19 to 21) in the historic De la Motte–Beer-Palace, where contemporary Hungarian artisans will present their wares and offer special workshops in collaboration with the Rearticon association.
Two other special attractions are the guided Advent walks entitled “Sisi’s Christmas” and the open-air exhibition “May there be a celebration on earth! – The world of our retro winters.” The latter presents the material culture of the second half of the 20th century in relation to winter and holidays with the help of collection pieces from the Hungarian Museum of Commerce and Hospitality.
During Advent, festive decorations, Christmas specialties cooked over charcoal, and hot drinks await passersby at the Fountain of the Fishing Children. With this diverse program, the Castle Garden Bazaar invites visitors to experience the Christmas season in a unique historical and festive atmosphere.
