    MOL’s Százhalombatta refinery has resumed fuel production, albeit at reduced capacity. The Budapest-based multinational oil and gas company says the restart of units unaffected by the fire is progressing according to schedule.

    In response to an inquiry from Világgazdaság, the company stated: “Hungary’s supply is secure: we have sufficient fuel.”

    The fire broke out on October 20 in MOL Danube Refinery’s AV3 distillation plant. As reported by Hungary Today, no one was injured, and the fire was localized and completely extinguished by the next day. MOL’s fire brigade, along with firefighters  from the surrounding settlements, fought the blaze. Special materials were required to extinguish the fire: mobile disaster response laboratories, as well as chemical and powder foam containers, were mobilized to the scene. The cause of the accident is currently being investigated.

    Structural, mechanical, instrumentation, electrical, and chemical engineers are evaluating which equipment can be salvaged, what must be dismantled, and which parts need to be rebuilt,

    the company said in its recent statement.

    A detailed dismantling and restoration plan will be drawn up after the assessment.

    MOL stated last week that the country’s fuel supply was not affected in the short term and that production would resume soon, excluding the AV-3 unit.

    The fire, however, has implications for regional fuel supply, particularly in Serbia, as earlier this year, MOL had already increased exports to the country.
