Stunning new details have emerged over a daring rescue of an American serviceman whose plane was shot down in Iran over the weekend.
As Iranian forces closed in, the US launched a deception campaign involving hundreds of personnel and dozens of military aircraft to confuse the Iranians and save the stranded American, who was deep in mountainous terrain.
The US airman used the SERE (survival, evasion, resistance, and escape) training to evade capture in Iran and hid on an elevated ridge after hiking away from the wreckage and putting out an emergency beacon.
