The Budapest Metropolitan Court on Wednesday handed down verdicts in the so-called antifa trial, sentencing German citizen Simeon Ravi Trux (alias Maja T.) to eight years in prison in the first instance. Co-defendant Gabriele M. received a seven-year prison sentence, while Anna Christina M. was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, suspended on probation. The case stems from a series of attacks carried out in Budapest in February 2023 against people the defendants considered to be far-right extremists.
In explaining the judgment, Judge Dr. József Sós said extensive video footage proved the perpetrators’ guilt, showing the defendants and others tracking their targets over long periods and across several public transport transfers.
A central point of the evidence was the attack in the Gazdagrét district. According to the ruling, the video analyses show the use of telescopic batons and document the intensity of the assault on a defenseless victim who suffered head injuries that required 24 stitches. The court considered it proven that the individuals in the recordings could be identified beyond doubt despite being partially masked.
Amazing how people like @SalisIlaria, once an Antifa thug accused of beating people half to de_th on the streets of Budapest, now get to preach in the European Parliament—protected by MEP immunity, of course.

A significant part of the trial day was devoted to the 132-page psychiatric report on Maja T. The defense complained that the document had not been made available to the defendant in German translation in time, which had impaired her right to a proper defense. The court countered that the core content was already known from earlier transcripts and that the rest was conveyed by interpreters on the day of the hearing. The report describes the defendant as a person with a high degree of self-control who, however, can be prone to violent defensive reactions in situations she subjectively perceives as dangerous. Incapacity or a significant impairment of her ability to understand her actions at the time of the crime was ruled out.
The defense attorneys for the foreign defendants raised procedural concerns. In the case of Gabriele M., the legal counsel criticized that Italy had refused extradition due to Hungarian prison conditions and that the court had not allowed participation via video link. This constituted a violation of the right to a fair trial, they argued. It was also argued that the available biometric data and video fragments were insufficient to prove involvement in the crime beyond reasonable doubt. The defense therefore primarily sought acquittals.

In her final statement, Maja T. spoke in detail about her trial and her imprisonment. She criticized her extradition from Germany as legally flawed and addressed her prison conditions, including a period of solitary confinement and a hunger strike, with which she wanted to draw attention to the situation in the prison system. She expressed the view that the proceedings were politically influenced in order to achieve a deterrent effect. The court rejected this account and emphasized the independence of the judiciary and compliance with all constitutional norms during the investigation.
After hearing all the evidence, the court sentenced German citizen Maja T. to eight years’ imprisonment in penitentiary for aggravated assault. Early release on parole was ruled out. Co-defendant Gabriele M. received a seven-year prison sentence, while Anna Christina M. was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, the execution of which was suspended on probation.
The second defendant, German national Tobias E., had already been convicted earlier and is currently under police supervision in Germany. The fifth defendant is also abroad, in Italy, as the Italian authorities have not extradited him to Hungary. The third defendant, Anna M., is defending herself in Germany while remaining at liberty.
The verdict is not yet final. As both the prosecution and the defense requested harsher sentences and acquittals or reduced sentences, respectively, the case will be reviewed in the second instance. Maja T.’s pretrial detention has been extended until the proceedings are legally concluded.

“Ilaria Salis’ accomplice, the Antifa terrorist Maja T., was sentenced to 8 years in prison in the first instance. The 24-year-old German citizen was convicted for the politically motivated brutal assault on Hungarian citizens in Budapest in 2023,” said Zoltán Kovács, State Secretary for International Communication and Relations in the Prime Minister’s Office, after the verdict was announced, on X.
Fact
According to the previously disclosed indictment, in 2017 the defendants established an extreme left-wing organization whose members decided to take up the ideological fight against fascism through physical violence. They practiced their attacks through regular training sessions, communicated with each other on the darknet, and planned their actions. In accordance with this scenario, they carried out the offensives in Budapest in February 2023, for which they set a 30-second time frame and assigned tasks to each member of the group. The investigation found that the aim of the attacks was to deter, and they wanted to cause serious injuries.
The actions were carried out in complete silence, according to the rehearsed plan, in order to make the investigation more difficult. They wore gloves and masks and changed clothes while leaving the scene. In connection with the events planned by right-wing groups in Budapest on February 11, 2023, ten people representing anti-fascist ideology arrived in Hungary from Germany and Italy. The case file shows that the attacks carried a risk of life-threatening injuries, meaning the defendants had to be aware that they could cause more serious harm, which only did not occur by chance, the prosecution previously said.
