Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó
In an unprecedented move, Germany has openly threatened Hungary over the government’s stance on the Ukrainian oil blockade. However, the government will not give up representing the national interest and will not allow the Ukrainians to triple the utility costs for Hungarian families, stated Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, on Monday in Brussels.
The minister described what happened at the meeting as “a very crude, open, and shameless threat” made by his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, who warned that there would be serious consequences if the Hungarian government did not abandon its national interests and continued to refuse to vote in favor of approving the 90 billion euro war loan intended for Ukraine, as well as the steps necessary for the country’s EU accession.
A trilateral consultation with the Slovak and Ukrainian energy ministers was scheduled for today, but the Ukrainian side ultimately refused to take part.

“The German foreign minister made this clear today; a very harsh threat came from Berlin because of Hungary’s defense of its national interests,” he stated.
It is absolutely clear that the Brussels-Berlin-Kyiv axis wants a change of government in Hungary, because it wants to drag Europe into war, and the sovereign national government in Hungary is standing in the way of the Brussels-Berlin-Kyiv axis,”
he continued.
He then condemned the fact that war-mongering continues to prevail in Brussels, and that they are preparing for a future in which war will be Europe’s long-term reality; their expectation is that there will certainly be no peace in Ukraine this year. “Since today’s Council meeting began with a statement by the Ukrainian foreign minister, I was the first to make Hungary’s position clear. Hungary has been under a Ukrainian oil blockade for nearly fifty days now. This oil blockade has exclusively political reasons.
They are trying to interfere in the Hungarian parliamentary elections and want to create a gasoline supply crisis by exploiting the oil supply crisis, aiming to drive gasoline prices up to 1,000 forints,”
he warned.
“This is a very crude, open interference in the election so that Zelenskyy can form a government in Hungary as well. At the same time, the Ukrainians have been exposed. They have been exposed because it has become clear to anyone capable of and willing to think even a little rationally that there is absolutely no technical or engineering reason why oil is not being transported through this pipeline. The Ukrainians are lying through their teeth on this issue,” he opined.
Péter Szijjártó explained that the Ukrainian system operator first indicated it needed three days, then another day or two, and then kept delaying the restart until they finally admitted they were waiting for political approval. “Then on Saturday, the Ukrainian grid operator held a briefing in Kyiv for the ambassadors, telling them they needed a month. In contrast, today the Ukrainian foreign minister mentioned 42 days at the Council meeting” he pointed out.
The Ukrainian president is lying. @ZelenskyyUa claims he was unaware that a Hungarian delegation would arrive in Ukraine because the Hungarian government did not coordinate the visit with the Ukrainian MFA.

“We will not tolerate the Ukrainians’ lies, the Ukrainian interference in our elections or the Ukrainian oil blockade. Therefore, today I made it clear that we will not vote for either the 20th sanctions package or the Ukrainians’ 90 billion euro war loan, and in the future we will not vote for any decision that would provide money to the Ukrainians or any decision that the Ukrainians might need.
Because it is unacceptable that while the Ukrainians are keeping us under blockade, we here in Brussels should be doing them a favor,”
he emphasized.
With today’s US decision to suspend sanctions on Russian oil shipments, Russian oil can once again reach global markets by sea, increasing supply and bringing prices down.
Europe, however, will not see these benefits, as Russian oil is banned from the European market and…

The minister also noted that his colleagues representing the Brussels line had made it clear that, in their view, cheap Russian crude oil is not a good thing, and they expect Hungary to purchase it at a higher price as well. He noted that many have criticized the suspension of U.S. sanctions on Russian energy imports; some view the resumption of oil shipments from Ukraine as a favor, while decisions guaranteeing energy security in Hungary and Slovakia have been dismissed as excuses.
