The Hungarian Horntail dragon from the fourth Harry Potter movie
Harry Potter is a story that, for many of us, brings back memories of a simpler, more carefree time in childhood. The display titled Harry Potter, the Exhibition – Experience the Magic opened its doors on February 6, 2026 in Szentendre (a small town located half an hour away from Budapest). The interactive expo features 20 rooms for fans to explore. Iconic sets bring scenes from the films to life, and visitors can get an up-close look at the original costumes, props, and magical objects.
The rights holder of the Harry Potter exhibition in Szentendre has signed a contract with Warner Bros., thus the display is based not on the books but rather on the films—and incorporates elements from across the entire franchise. In addition to the original Harry Potter films, costumes and props from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and even the stage play The Cursed Child, are on display.
The experience begins right where the story itself does: you enter the Wizarding World through a replica of Platform 9¾ at King’s Cross Station.
Here, you must register with your wristband and have your photo taken. With the bracelet, you will be able to participate in the virtual games and collect points for your house. The Sorting Hat does not assign you to the houses, you get to choose which house you want to belong to, which Patronus will protect you, and which wand you will use to cast the spells.
As the next step, you enter the world of Harry Potter—both symbolically and in reality. In the first room, after a brief recap of the film storylines, you can find yourself on the Marauder’s Map, which covers every wall.

From here, a straight path leads into the castle interior, where, among the moving portraits on the walls, you might come across familiar figures such as Lord Byron or Mary Shelley.
In the Slytherin common room, Bellatrix Lestrange and Draco Malfoy’s costumes and wands are on display; in Ravenclaw, you can peek into the oddities inside Luna Lovegood’s trunk; and in Hufflepuff, we realize that before his role in the Twilight franchise, Robert Pattinson played Cedric Diggory.

In the Gryffindor common room, you can see the costumes worn by the main trio in the third installment, the fan favorite movie Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Draco Malfoy’s blood is drying on Hermione’s top—she punched him in the nose—and the knees of her jeans are muddy from Hagrid’s pumpkin patch. Ron is wearing the legendary Weasley sweater.

During the interactive part of the exhibition, you can defeat the bogeyman or see what the crystal ball predicts, you can create your own potion, participate in a Herbology class, or try to fit into Harry’s cupboard under the stairs.

You can strike a pose at the many brilliant photo spots set up by the organizers of the exhibition.
By completing the tasks of the exhibition, you earn points for your chosen house, and when you leave, you can see if your contribution helped win the House Cup.
Fact
The first book in J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series was published in 1997 (translated into Hungarian by Tamás Boldizsár Tóth in 1999).

The first film adaptation of the books was released in 2001, so this year we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The author expanded the Wizarding World with prequels, which were later adapted into films as well.
