Support for the TISZA Party has fallen below 50% among the general population and below 60% among eligible voters, but among certain voters, the governing party still retains an electorate of nearly two-thirds, revealed a recent poll by Europion.
The party-preference survey conducted in August shows that support for FIDESZ has not changed significantly since July. Last month, support for the largest opposition party among the general population rose from 20% to 21%, and among party supporters from 24% to 25%, while
FIDESZ remained at 25% among certain voters, the same level as in July.
Mi Hazánk (Our Homeland), meanwhile, has gained some strength. In all three target groups, support for the party is now in double digits: among the general population, it rose
from 8% to 10%, among party voters from 10% to 12%, and among committed party voters also from 8% to 10%,
continuing the upward trend of recent months. According to Europion, it can cautiously be concluded that Mi Hazánk may be the beneficiary of FIDESZ’s decline.

The survey notes that the traditional August “silly season” has completely spared Hungarian domestic politics this time — at least judging by the size of the undecided (non-partisan) group. After July 17, only 15% of respondents failed to name a party when asked about their party preference, while the proportion saying they would definitely vote if an election were held today, on Sunday, rose from 71% in July to 74% in August.
In the politicians’ popularity rankings, TISZA Party politicians continue to lead opposition politicians by a wide margin. An interesting change is that
Minister of Transport and Investment Dávid Vitézy, with a 4-percentage-point increase to 52%, leads the field of government politicians, putting him 1 percentage point ahead of Péter Magyar (51%),
5 points ahead of István Kapitány (47%), Minister of Economy and Energy, and 7–8 points ahead of Health Minister Zsolt Hegedűs and Foreign Minister Anita Orbán (44%).

The new president, András Baka, who was elected on Tuesday, has so far failed to attain the high position in the popularity rankings: only 30% would assign him an important political role, while 42% were unable to form an opinion about him, partly because of his low public profile.
Among opposition politicians, Viktor Orbán remains the most popular, with a score of 28%,
while 56% of respondents said they disapprove of him, according to the poll.
He is followed by László Toroczkai (27%) and Dóra Dúró (25%), while the other FIDESZ politicians rank only behind the leading figures of Mi Hazánk.
The poll also examined interest in a possible new political party, asking respondents how likely they would be to vote for five parties with hypothetical profiles.
Regardless of the specific profile, around 25–30% of respondents appear to be generally open to voting for a new party.
The most popular alternative appears to be a new left-wing party focused on social justice and solidarity (30%), but not far behind are the Greens (29%), a far-right party (27%), the liberals (26%), and a conservative center-right party (26%).
