If you’ve ever wanted to hear what really happens behind the scenes of “The Real Housewives,” “Watch What Happens Live” or CNN on New Year’s Eve, you have the chance to find out next Saturday when DAR Constitution Hall hosts “AC2: An Intimate Evening with Anderson Cooper & Andy Cohen.”

“This is Anderson and I on stage, uncensored,” Cohen told WTOP contributor Joe Yasharoff. “Think New Year’s Eve, but we’re actually telling the stories that we’re not allowed to tell on television.”
Cooper, a longtime CNN anchor and Cohen’s New Year’s Eve co-host, has led a fascinating life and has interviewed some of the biggest names in the world, he said.
And the man who brought us the “Real Housewives” franchise has several his own stories to tell, from the table-flipping ladies to his time interviewing former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on his show “Watch What Happens Live.”
“I was so excited to tell her on television that I had had an affair with one of her Secret Service agents when she was first lady,” Cohen said. “It was a great TV moment. She was shocked.”
“Between the two of us, there’s also a lot to keep this show really fresh,” he added.
(function() {
const audio = document.getElementById(‘audio-30532245’);
const progressBar = document.getElementById(‘progress-30532245’);
if (!audio) return;
function updateProgressBar() {
if (progressBar && audio.duration) {
const progress = (audio.currentTime / audio.duration) * 100;
progressBar.style.width = progress + ‘%’;
}
}
audio.addEventListener(‘timeupdate’, updateProgressBar);
audio.addEventListener(‘loadedmetadata’, updateProgressBar);
})();
There is no script, Cohen said, and the night will be a politics-free zone, except if people bring it up during a question-and-answer portion of the show.
“It’s nice to give Anderson a break and just let him have fun on a Saturday night as well,” he said.
The two friends are no strangers to sharing a stage. They spent about four years taking the show to more than 60 cities before putting it on hold after both became fathers.
About a year ago, Cohen persuaded Cooper to revive the show for a limited run.
For those attending, the show feels almost like a cocktail party, with friends sharing stories and a lot of drinks. During a performance at The Masonic auditorium in San Francisco, the audience drank every drop of vodka the theater had.
“They said, ‘This is a first. This is unprecedented. We have never run out of vodka at a show,’” Cohen said.
Some audience members arrive feeling they already know Cohen and Cooper personally, while others come in knowing little about either of them.
“There’s a lot of guys who get dragged there by their wives and they’re laughing the loudest,” Cohen said.
For him, the ultimate compliment comes later, when those same husbands tell him they loved it.
“That means we did what we’re there to do,” Cohen said.
