<p>State and city officials are asking a Cook County Circuit Court judge to halt operations at Pullman Innovations, which has been the source of hundreds of nuisance <a class="Link" href="https://chicago.suntimes.com/environment/2025/07/09/pullman-innovations-odor-pollution-violations-chicago-health-epa-peter-chico" >complaints over putrid odors</a>.</p><p>Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul and city lawyers want the judge to force Pullman to shut down while the business devises a plan to control smells. The business makes an additive in animal feed used by farmers who supply eggs to food company Dutch Farms.</p><p>Raoul and the city sued the business in August over the odors, alleging violations of state and city air pollution laws.</p><p>The motion included numerous testimonies, including that of a former employee who said his clothes “smelled like death” after a shift.</p><p>“The company should not be allowed to continue operations until it addresses the odors and air pollution and ensures that its operations comply with Illinois’ environmental laws,” Raoul said in a statement.</p><p>A lawyer for Pullman couldn’t be reached for comment.</p><p>Some neighbors <a class="Link" href="https://chicago.suntimes.com/environment/2026/08/14/south-chicago-chapel-funeral-home-smell-pollution-pullman-innovations-odor-southeast-side-south-deering-steel-mills" >suggested to the Chicago Sun-Times</a> in August that the smell may have masked the odor of decomposing bodies at the South Chicago Chapel funeral home now under investigation.</p><p>Pullman Innovations, at 2701 E. 100th St., is roughly a mile from the funeral home. Yet, wind direction can push the smell throughout the larger South Deering area on the Far Southeast Side.</p><p><a class="Link" href="https://chicago.suntimes.com/2023/2/10/23592110/polluters-pullman-innovations-air-quality-pollution-violations" >The feed-additive plant has long been a source of nuisance</a> complaints that stretch back decades to a predecessor company, Agri-Fine, which was previously sued by former Attorney General Lisa Madigan before it went out of business.</p><p>Pullman, incorporated as A-F Acquisition, acquired the plant and assets in 2016.</p><p>Residents were at war with Agri-Fine over odors for more than 20 years until the business declared bankruptcy protection more than a decade ago.</p>
