With an investment of 11 billion forints (€30 million), Hungarian bakery giant Félegyházi Pékség Kft. officially commissioned a new production hall and logistics center on Thursday at its headquarters in the southern Hungarian city of Kiskunfélegyháza. The first greenfield project in the company’s history will create 200 new jobs in the region, laying the foundations for expansion into European foreign markets.
Of the total investment, 4.98 billion forints (€14 million) comes from funding provided by the Hungarian government and the European Union. The company financed the remaining amount from its own resources.
The facility operates on a newly developed 9,000-square-meter site and features a high degree of automation.
The centerpiece of the facility comprises four industrial production lines for fine pastries, frozen spirals, as well as fully automated packaging and palletizing systems using robotic technology. The complex is complemented by a semi-automated frozen warehouse operated with automated guided vehicles, with capacity for 6,000 pallets.

The expansion doubles the company’s capacity in frozen baked goods:
- Hourly output: Up to 50,000 units on the new lines
- Annual capacity: More than 200 million units
- Total operating area: Increased to more than 26,000 square meters
As Gergő Gulyás, managing director and co-owner, explained, the facility is intended not only to consolidate the company’s dominant position in the domestic market, but also to serve as a springboard for increased exports to Europe.
The plant, which was built in just twelve months, is currently operating at around 40% capacity. This is expected to reach 65 to 70% by the end of the year, with full-capacity operation targeted for mid-2027.
Company owner István Gulyás looked back on the development of the family business on the occasion of its 25th anniversary. When he took over the company in 2001, after it had been founded in 1999 with 20 employees, between 80 and 100 people were producing baked goods on 2,000 square meters, with monthly flour consumption of 100 to 120 tons.
Today, the company processes more than 2,000 tons of flour per month. For the full year 2026, the company expects to achieve the highest production volume in its history. More than 42 million kilograms of baked goods—over 370 million individual units—are expected to be produced and distributed.
As the new capacities are ramped up, the total workforce will gradually increase to 2,000 employees.
At the official handover ceremony, László Búza, State Secretary for Food Industry, Food Distribution and Food Culture, highlighted the project’s importance for the country. Ensuring the population’s supply of high-quality food is a key national task, he said.
The new facility demonstrates that Hungary’s food industry can catch up with the global technological forefront.
In addition to its traditional product range, the company, which accounts for more than ten percent of the Hungarian market, specifically caters to demand for vegan, allergen-free, wholegrain and diabetic-friendly products. The State Secretary also praised the use of energy-efficient refrigeration technology, the integration of employees with reduced working capacity, and cooperation with the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest.
József Csányi, mayor of Kiskunfélegyháza, emphasized the company’s importance as a local engine of employment.
Over the past twelve years alone, the bakery has created more than 1,300 jobs at the site.
Félegyházi Pékség Kft. is 100% owned by a second-generation Hungarian family and relies on a two-pillar distribution network consisting of its own stores and wholesale customers. The bakery group, which holds a significant position in the domestic market, currently operates 92 of its own specialty stores and works with more than 500 partners, including retail chains, institutional caterers, and the Hungarian armed forces.
