At a press conference following a meeting between Defense Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky and his Czech counterpart Jaromír Zůna, the ministers emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two countries in the defense sector and cited examples of recently concluded agreements.
In connection with the meeting with Jaromír Zůna, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky emphasized that the military and security chiefs of the two countries with long traditions and close ties were able to meet.
He pointed out the importance of defense cooperation between the two countries and as an example cited that
an agreement on cooperation between Tatra and Rába was recently reached, under which a large portion of the Hungarian army’s small arms are manufactured under Czech license,
and that L-39 Skyfox training aircraft from Aero Vodochody have been delivered to the Hungarian Defense Forces.
Hungary highly values the Czech Republic as a reliable regional partner and committed NATO ally, said Szalay-Bobrovniczky, noting that in 2026, Hungary will assume airspace surveillance duties over Slovakia in cooperation with the Czech Republic.

The defense minister noted that cooperation between the two countries is particularly important with regard to the Central European Multinational Division Command based in Székesfehérvár, central Hungary.
He added that Hungary and the Czech Republic cooperate closely in the areas of defense and security. The relationship is built on solid foundations, has a realistic basis, is developing dynamically, and offers great prospects, the minister said.
They agreed that
ministries and armed forces of both countries should further deepen their cooperation in the future, not only in the military sphere but also in the areas of logistics, military healthcare, and defense planning,
Jaromír Zůna explained, adding that this is a long-term partnership in which both sides are working together to strengthen security in the region and within the alliance.

The Czech side admires the modernization of the Hungarian armed forces, as well as the pace at which the Hungarian defense industry is developing and cooperating with the Czech defense industry,
the Czech minister emphasized.
Regarding the V4, he noted that cooperation with neighbors is of fundamental importance to the Czech Republic, as they not only share the same geographical space but also have a common history and culture and are connected by the present and the future—and in this sense, also by the issue of security. As he said, they are convinced that regional cooperation within the V4 is a powerful tool for further strengthening defense and security.

He also mentioned that a battle group is to be formed within the V4 in 2028, in which the Czechs will take a leading role, and expressed the hope that they will be able to utilize the opportunities offered by the joint battle group for the benefit of the EU.
