The Hungarian Post has issued a themed personalized commemorative stamp to mark the upcoming 100th birthday of József Bozsik, the legendary right-back of the Hungarian “Golden Team.” The release coincides with the culmination of the commemorative year dedicated to József Bozsik. At the ceremony, it was also announced that, on Hungary’s initiative, UNESCO has declared the 100th birthday of Ferenc Puskás in 2027, an official commemorative anniversary.
On Monday, the Golden Team Committee held a press conference in Budapest, focusing on the tribute to Olympic champion József Bozsik, who would have turned 100 on Friday (November 28).
Zoltán Lomnici, President of the Golden Team Committee, recalled that
the “Bozsik 100 Memorial Year” was proclaimed a year ago in order to make the life of the internationally renowned athlete accessible to a wider audience beyond sports enthusiasts.
This goal was pursued through numerous soccer cups, exhibitions, and commemorative events in Hungary and areas inhabited by Hungarians.

A highlight of the commemorative year will be the unveiling of a statue of József Bozsik later this year. Zoltán Lomnici emphasized that this work of art is the result of genuine national cooperation and represents a fitting memorial to the Olympic champion, who was born in 1925. He highlighted that
it was an “extraordinary stroke of luck” that József Bozsik and his childhood friend Ferenc Puskás, who played soccer with a rag ball as neighbors, became world-famous soccer players whose names are now borne by stadiums.
Miklós Springer, Deputy Director General for Logistics at Hungarian Post, paid tribute to Bozsik’s extraordinary career in his speech. Among other things, he recalled that the footballer was Olympic champion in Helsinki in 1952, and European Cup winner in 1953. Bozsik was part of the 6-3 victory in London, where he also scored a goal, and in 1954, he was a member of the World Cup runner-up team. He later worked as a national coach, and in 1986, the Honvéd Stadium was named after him. In addition, several schools and soccer academies bear his name.

The commemorative special stamp, designed by graphic designer Imre Benedek, has been issued in a limited edition of 12,250 copies and is available at several Hungarian Post offices.
György Szöllősi, ambassador of Hungarian soccer tradition, added that
Bozsik was the first Hungarian player to reach the milestone of 100 international caps, wearing the national jersey a total of 101 times.
He also emphasized the deep bond with his friend Ferenc Puskás, who always referred to Bozsik as the best soccer player.
Parallel to the tribute to Bozsik, another important announcement was made. At its General Assembly, Samarkand officially declared the 100th birthday of Ferenc Puskás on April 1, 2027, a UNESCO anniversary at the initiative of Hungary.
This goes hand in hand with national plans to proclaim a Hungarian Puskás memorial year, during which the final of the UEFA Champions League will take place at Puskás Arena on May 30 next year.
Finally, reference was made to today, November 25, the anniversary of the legendary 6-3 victory in London and also Hungarian Football Day.
