On January 1st, we doubled the family tax allowance for one million families, and half a million mothers became exempt from personal income tax for life, said the Minister of Culture and Innovation on Wednesday on the M1 news channel.
Balázs Hankó added that 120,000 mothers under the age of 40 with two children are now exempt from personal income tax, and as of October 1 last year, mothers with three children, numbering 250,000, also became exempt from paying personal income tax.
By 2029, all mothers with two children will gradually become exempt from this tax.
In the case of the 15,000 mothers under the age of 30, the income tax exemption has been extended to apply not only to their average salary but to their entire salary, and the personal income tax exemption is guaranteed regardless of when the child was born, he said.
He emphasized that the tax credit and income tax exemption represent an annual increase of 1.5 million forints (3,896 euros; 1 euro = 385 forints) for those under 30, 2.2 million for those under 40 with two children, and 3.7 million forints for those with three children.
He emphasized how the Hungarian nation and the Hungarian government stand by the family as it was created in the natural order of the world.
“This is the guiding principle of a modern Christian government (…), as we are the most family-friendly in Europe.”

Regarding measures related to home creation, he said that every second family raising children has been provided with a new home of their own in recent years.
According to the minister, the support system offers solutions for all life situations. He mentioned that in the case of the Home Start program, for example, marriage is not a prerequisite for taking out a loan.
He explained that the logic of the “old and new left,” which is based on a European Commission country recommendation, is that resources should be taken away from the people and given to multinationals or elsewhere, according to foreign interests. This is now the financing of the war in Ukraine. The $800 billion to be spent on Ukraine over the next ten years is equivalent to 60 years of Hungarian family support, he added.

Over the past ten years, we have provided 4,400 billion forints in tax breaks to families, and we will provide 4,000 billion forints over the next four years, he said.
Supporting families is a matter of principle and values, and it must be maintained from now on, he added. “We do not work from European Commission reports or foreign centers of influence, but represent the interests of the Hungarian nation and families,” he said.
