    The National Police Headquarters (ORFK) is upgrading the electronic security of the Hungarian-Serbian border section with support from the European Union; the new system will also help curb illegal immigration, the ORFK reported on Wednesday.

    They highlighted that significant technical and infrastructural improvements are being implemented along the Schengen external border section between Hungary and Serbia. As part of the project, an integrated mobile telecommunications network is being established to ensure the fast and reliable transmission of data from surveillance devices operating along the border.

    The investment is being implemented with 7.639 billion forints (19.64 million euros) in EU funding, co-financed by the government.

    The new system will not only increase the efficiency of border control tasks but also contribute to strengthening public safety and curbing illegal immigration, in line with common European security policy objectives and the strengthening of cooperation among member states.

    Another objective of the project is to reduce the workload on operators, improve responsiveness, and optimize the use of human resources. The new system provides real-time support to operational forces, optimizing the use of resources and making command and control more efficient, the ORFK said.

    The project will be implemented by December 31, 2027, under the “Development of the Electronic Border Control System” tender as part of the Border Management and Visa Policy Instrument Plus program, according to the announcement.
