“Everyone knows that spending on the defense industry will have to increase in the future, which means it is worth investing in this sector,” emphasized the Minister of National Economy on Thursday in Budapest at the “V4 Space & Defense Festival 2026” event for the space and defense industries.
Márton Nagy emphasized that every country considers defense spending a priority, and there are countless contracts from which to benefit. He explained that Hungary has reached a very important milestone in the defense industry; recently, many companies have been established and privatized and have successfully entered foreign markets. This is a great opportunity, the minister explained, welcoming the fact that more and more Hungarian small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as international firms, are seeking to collaborate with them in this sector.
Minister Nagy made it clear that the space industry is also playing an increasingly important role in the Hungarian economy. He announced that the Remtech space factory is currently under construction, and the government hopes that it will
create Hungary’s independent satellite capacity through international contracts.
He also pointed out that Hungary has recently doubled its contribution to the budget of the European Space Agency (ESA). In return for the membership fee, it is expected that Hungary will also participate in international projects and that Hungarian companies will be involved in the developments.
The minister also highlighted the MoonRad mission, which he described as a “flagship” project. As he explained, the program will create capacity for small satellites in collaboration with Hungarian suppliers, with Hungarian industrial value added ranging from 60 to 80%. “We are very proud of this,” added Nagy.
Szabolcs Szolnoki, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of National Economy, responsible for technology, space, and the defense industry, put it this way in his speech:
Today is all about resilience and emergency situations.”
He reported that 1,400 people had registered for the event and that more than seventy speakers would be welcomed. “If wars must be waged, then we should wage such numerical wars,” he remarked.
The politician called on those present to work together to strengthen Hungary’s resilience. “We know very well that this kind of deterrent power—represented by the companies here with us today—is necessary for peacekeeping,” said the undersecretary, noting that the Hungarian Export Agency for the Defense and Aerospace Industry, János Neumann Nonprofit Ltd., and the ministry, among others, were represented at the event to present the unified portfolio of aerospace and defense technologies developed over the past year.
