JazzFest Budapest returns for its fifth edition from June 27 to July 5, transforming the Hungarian capital into an international jazz hub with nearly 200 performers, world-renowned headliners, tributes to Miles Davis and John Coltrane, and a special focus on South Korean jazz artists, Szeretlekmagyarország.hu announced.
Now in its fifth year, JazzFest Budapest—a festival that has earned significant international prestige—welcomes fans of the genre from June 27 to July 5. Alongside the best Hungarian musicians in the genre, the lineup features artists such as Al Di Meola, Pat Metheny, Marcus Miller, and one of the brightest figures in 20th- and 21st-century music, Charles Lloyd. Over the course of ten days, jazz fans will be able to see nearly 200 performers from twelve countries; this year’s guest of honor will be South Korea, from which several world-renowned jazz artists will be arriving. The main venue is City Hall Park, but you can also catch performances by the genre’s best at several other locations. This year’s event will also pay tribute to two of the genre’s defining musicians, Miles Davis and John Coltrane—both of whom would have turned 100 this year.
With the exception of June 30, four concerts a day will draw audiences to the main stage at Városház Park, while bands made up of young talents will perform on the small stage during the set changes.
Early risers can start their day on June 27 at the Sunrise Surprise concert in the Garden of Philosophers.
The lineup features numerous leading figures from the Hungarian jazz scene. One of the most versatile and influential musicians in Hungarian music, Mihály Borbély, will be performing. The artist, who turns 70 this year, will take the stage with a special ensemble featuring not only his young Hungarian colleagues but also two true global stars, Erik Truffaz and Shai Maestro. Saxophonist Kálmán Oláh Jr. will present his first solo album, King’s Gambit, which features his own compositions and unique arrangements.

“And the global jazz scene’s biggest names will be here as well, such as the living legend of guitar music, Al Di Meola, one of the world’s most influential and versatile musicians. Pat Metheny, the multiple Grammy-winning guitar virtuoso, is coming with his latest project, Side-Eye III+, in which he collaborates with the most exciting talents of the young American jazz generation. And Charles Lloyd, one of the brightest figures in 20th- and 21st-century music, will also be performing with his quartet,” said Attila Kleb, director of JazzFest, while highlighting the festival’s international lineup.
JazzFest Budapest also pays tribute to two legends born 100 years ago.
Miles Davis and John Coltrane fundamentally reshaped the world of 20th-century music; trumpeter Terence Blanchard and saxophonist Ravi Coltrane—John Coltrane’s son—will honor their legacy with the bands they lead. Marcus Miller’s We Want Miles! project also promises an exciting tribute to Miles Davis, one of the most important figures not only in jazz but in the entire history of music.

This year’s guest of honor at the Budapest Jazz Festival will be South Korea, which is sending a number of world-renowned performers to the event. One of them is jazz pianist Cho Yoonseung, who studied under Arthur Rubinstein during his classical music studies, went on to win a scholarship to Berklee College of Music, and was the first Asian musician to be admitted to the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz on a full scholarship.
