Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski stated that the Government is not abandoning the idea of building data centers because, as he emphasizes, the world and humanity are moving in that direction, and this process is irreversible. He stressed that the Government has not received any official communication from the EU indicating a withdrawal of funding or grants for the construction of the national data center. If such a communication were to arrive, he added, then it could be commented upon.
The question is whether we, as a state, want to remain stuck in the 19th and 20th centuries with certain retro-political forces, or if we want to stride boldly into the future? This Government is absolutely mindful of the interests of the state and its citizens. The interests of the state and the citizens will never be compromised. We are deeply committed to the future of this country and to rapid economic development, Mickoski stated in response to a question regarding reports that the EU had notified countries in the region of its decision to withdraw funding and grants for national data centers and to exclude this initiative from the reform agenda.
Thanks to those data centers and artificial intelligence, Mickoski emphasized, we were able to see today how much of the equipment at the Tabanovce border crossing actually operates.
In fact, without that artificial intelligence and those data centers, I would not be able to communicate with you today in the way that I am. Therefore, let us leave those political forces to sink in their political quagmire of the 19th and 20th centuries and allow ourselves to develop as a state in the way the citizens deserve, the Prime Minister said in response to a question during his visit to the Tabanovce border crossing.
The question of why the construction of national data centers in Western Balkan countries is no longer a priority for Brussels—given that the EU had funded the “Vezilka” project specifically in Macedonia—was also put to the EU Ambassador to the country, Michalis Rokas, who noted that he had no such information.
Unfortunately, I cannot confirm the information you mentioned. As you already know, ‘Vezilka’ was put into operation—that is, it became functional—two months ago. It is intended to be connected to the larger data center in the Hellenic Republic; therefore, I have truly received no information regarding your claim so far, Rokas replied briefly.
