This year’s Tour de Hongrie cycling race will take place primarily in the southern regions of Hungary between May 13 and 17. The route of the 47th edition of the Hungarian race was presented in Budapest on Tuesday. The five-stage race will pass through 70 towns across seven counties. Riders will be able to collect points and bonus seconds at 15 intermediate sprint locations, while the route also features 12 categorized climbs.
Chief organizer Károly Eisenkrammer emphasized that Gyula will host the team presentation on May 12, and the next day the field will cycle from there to Békéscsaba on a route favorable to sprinters. The second stage, also flat, will take place between Szarvas and Paks, followed by another stage promising a field sprint between Kaposvár and Szekszárd.
This year’s queen stage will start in Mohács, commemorating the 500th anniversary of one of the most significant battles in Hungarian history.
The cyclists will have to tackle the Bárány Street climb in Pécs four times before reaching the finish line at the Zoo.
The final day of racing starts in Balatonalmádi, and the Tour de Hongrie ends in Veszprém after an unpredictable stage reminiscent of Belgian one-day races.

Máriusz Révész, State Secretary for Active Hungary, stressed that the race has made progress every year since its relaunch in 2015. He expressed his hope that in the coming years, more and more coaches will focus on the next generation, while also emphasizing the importance of Hungary having continental and pro-continental level teams in the long term, similar to the current ones.
He outlined other long-term goals, including the promotion of the Tour de Hongrie to the World Tour and the staging of the race abroad. At the same time, he highlighted the need to organize a Hungarian women’s cycling race and the possibility of bringing the grand start of the Tour de France to Hungary.
Gábor Schmidt, Deputy State Secretary for Sports Administration and Sports Development, spoke about how the Tour de Hongrie has grown into an admirable brand, characterized by a fantastic atmosphere, endurance, speed, strength, and momentum.
It is important to bring events to Hungary that promote the country’s good reputation and show as much as possible of this wonderful country. This event is now an important tourist attraction,”
he pointed out.
Domonkos Schneller, president of the Hungarian Cycling Federation (MKSZ), emphasized that the last competition was a success for Hungarian cyclists. He called it a huge opportunity that MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort is now classified as pro-continental, as well as the fact that the Hungarian circuit race belongs to the Pro Series category, that is the second tier below the World Tour.
The head of the MKSZ expressed his hope that the most recent Hungarian winner, Attila Valter, and last year’s seventh-place finisher Bálint Feldhoffer, will be able to participate in the race again this year, and emphasized that the Hungarian national team will be back on the starting line.
