I am typically not a list gal, but something urged me to sit down and think about how I want to frame the first few weeks of the summer. To be transparent, I have been feeling a little burnt out lately, and overall quite overwhelmed by the internet recently. This is nothing new. After running this business for close to 17 years, it’s easy to hit a wall every once in a while. The rise of ‘optimizing’ every part of your life, nonstop AI conversations, and the sheer amount of content that is out in the world has caught up with me. Florida has been unbearably hot the past week (looking forward to upcoming travel!), and my house is a disaster as we work through a few ongoing projects. While I am grateful for everything in my life, my Atlantic-Pacific plate is very full right now. Given that, below are a few of the things I plan to focus on this summer to reset and better enjoy this season of life.
Replace reading with doomscrolling. Read 10 books before the end of August. This is a pretty light goal, but I am intentionally making this list do-able so it isn’t something that can get me discouraged.
Be more proactive making plans with the friends who recharge my energy. Sometimes I take a backseat to my own social life and that isn’t the friend I want to be.
Reduce my closet by 20%. This is a big one. I have realized I have not been as diligent in 2026 about organizing and clearing out the items I no longer need. My closet has become overwhelming and a point of stress in my life. It is time to change that.
Take on less work. I am going to stick to my current contractual obligations but take on a slightly lighter work load this summer. It is such a privilege to have brands and retailers that want to work with me. I never take that for granted. Throughout my career I have recognized that there are certain periods of time when I need to take a slight step back and reset. This doesn’t always mean working less, but it allows me to focus on creating better organic content without the pressure of deadlines and forced ROIs.
Volunteer more. This sounds simple, but getting outside of myself and my own bubble helps me in so many ways.
After a lot of thought, I decided that I didn’t want to travel extensively this summer. Instead, I have made plans to go back to NYC for an extended period of time and reconnect with the city and my friends. I do love to travel, but only when I am in the right frame of mind. I have a lot going on behind the scenes and the idea of jumping on a zillion flights and managing multiple hotel reservations and transfers simply didn’t feel exciting. Instead, it felt draining. So, I will pretend the year is 2019 and I am living in the city again ;).
Make at least one new recipe at home per week. I am thankful that we will be in a larger apartment in NYC this summer. It will feel more like home in comparison to being smashed into a smaller hotel room. I plan to cook, keep comfy spots to read, and even have a friends over and entertain on the roof.
Above all, I am going to try and live more in the moment and soak up this summer season. I am always trying to find the right work-life balance and sometimes that means not being chronically online. Wish me luck!
