“I state with full responsibility that the economic situation today is much better than it was three or four years ago, and that in three or four years, it will be even better than it is today. We pursue a policy based on figures, not on emotions,” stated Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, commenting on opposition accusations that the debt has risen to four billion euros.
Mickoski notes that under his watch, public and state debt has now increased by just under 1.4 billion euros, while GDP has grown by 4 billion euros—contrasting this with the SDSM and DUI era (2018–2023), when debt rose by 3.7 billion euros while GDP grew by only 3.9 billion euros.
“It means that if you own a company and take out a loan of 100 units, during the six years of the SDSM and DUI government, you managed to turn those 100 units into 106 units—in other words, inflation ate up the value. Under this Government, you have managed to turn those 100 units into 250 units—that is, 2.5 times as much. That is the difference between this Government and the government that robbed, sold off, and destroyed Macedonia,” Mickoski explained.
He adds that while not all problems can be solved overnight, they are being addressed. “I do not accept that this Government is responsible for all the devastation, crime, and selling-off of the state perpetrated by the previous government—starting from the time the then-leader of SDSM, Zoran Zaev, released the fabricated and doctored materials in 2015. For ten years, this country was systematically destroyed by the very same people who wished it no good—neither then, nor today, nor at any point in the future,” said Mickoski.
Regarding the latest GDP statistics, Mickoski stated that the figures were expected and that the government would continue working to drive GDP growth.
“The Statistical Office has released the final GDP data for 2024, along with the adjustments made in accordance with global methodologies. This shows an increase in GDP from 3 percent to 3.8 percent—a figure we anticipated—and I expect us to continue on this trajectory of GDP growth in the period ahead,” said Mickoski.
