Accell Hunland bicycle factory in Tószeg
Opposition FIDESZ is launching a dedicated website listing factories that have closed since April or are expected to shut down by the end of the year, economx.hu reports.
Tamás Deutsch, head of the FIDESZ delegation in the European Parliament, offered only a brief response when asked how the economic policies of a party that has governed with a two-thirds majority for five months have affected Hungarians, the vast majority of whom voted for political change. “Even those who voted for Tisza are not doing well,” Tamás Deutsch said on Monday.
He backed up his statement by pointing to the website launched by FIDESZ. It lists businesses that have recently closed or are expected to close by the end of the year, organized by company and county and displayed on a map.
According to the website, 4,500 jobs have been lost since the TISZA government took office.
The list includes the following facilities:
- Accell Hunland in Tószeg, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County: Permanent closure with mass layoffs; 483 employees.
- Bayer Construct in Sóskút, Pest County: Insolvency proceedings affecting 2,000 people across the corporate group, as well as several hundred subcontractors and suppliers; 1,000 employees.
- EMA-LION‘s enamelware factory in Bonyhád, Tolna County: Under liquidation; 150 employees.
- Electrolux in Jászberény, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County: Refrigerator production to cease by the end of 2026; 600 employees.
- Flex in Sárvár, Vas County: Production decline. According to FIDESZ, production could be relocated to Ukraine, with an announcement expected in two to three weeks; 1,000 employees.
- Nippon Paper in Vácrátót, Pest County: Temporary suspension of operations until the end of 2026; 24 employees.
- Sangjin Micron in Jászfényszaru, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County: One of its main business units “could close soon”; 151 employees.
- WKW Hungaria in Győr, Győr-Moson-Sopron County: Following unsuccessful negotiations to sell the business, production will cease by the end of 2026, and the company will be dissolved without a legal successor; 470 employees.
Criticism of the new government’s economic policies has become a major focus for Hungary’s largest opposition party. The politicians regularly point to declining figures in industry, investment, and employment since the second quarter. They believe these trends directly demonstrate that the TISZA government is driving the country into decline.
However, industry sources told economx.hu that a company does not reach the point of definitive liquidation within just five or six months, and that the TISZA government has not yet introduced any concrete measures that would have suddenly forced the affected employers to lay off workers.

“If the opposition constantly accuses Péter Magyar of governing only on Facebook, which of his measures do they believe caused people to lose their jobs? This is an attempt to stir up public sentiment,” said a manager at an automotive supplier in the Hungarian countryside, who also spoke about difficulties in the industry in Western Europe and their impact on the Hungarian market.
WKW Hungaria, which appears on the list, is also affected by these developments. Reports have indicated that its German multinational parent company decided to shut down its operations in Győr in response to the challenging business environment in Germany.
When a foreign owner decides to streamline its operations, the government of another country generally has little influence over that decision.
Introducing a special tax does not necessarily mean a company will withdraw, either. But it is true that such difficult decisions are often felt first by subsidiaries,” the source at the business news outlet noted.
The enamelware factory in Bonyhád also warrants closer examination.Publicly available information indicates that the company has been recording substantial losses since 2023, and rumors of a possible closure were already circulating in industry circles under the previous government.
Nippon Paper, Sangjin Micron, and WKW previously received billions of forints in state aid, but no public information is available about the commitments they made in return for the funding.
Hungary Today has previously reported on Bayer Construct, the company led by Attila Balázs. In August this year, the company initiated insolvency proceedings, citing unfavorable market conditions.
The company attributed its difficulties to the Péter Magyar government’s decision not to purchase the office complex at Bosnyák Square for the originally planned HUF 300 billion (€823.61 million, €1 = HUF 364). By March 2026, Bayer Construct had received more than HUF 12 billion in state funding, in exchange for which it had committed to creating 200 new jobs.
