The press office of the U.S. State Department has announced that four far-left organizations linked to Antifa will be designated as Specially Designated Global Terrorist Organizations and registered as foreign terrorist organizations as of November 20. The statement also explicitly mentions Hungary, which declared Antifa Ost a terrorist organization back in September.
Washington’s latest decision affects the groups Antifa Ost, the Informal Anarchist Federation/International Revolutionary Front (FAI/FRI), Armed Proletarian Justice, and Revolutionary Class Self-Defense. The State Department has placed these groups on the Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) list and has applied for their official designation as foreign terrorist organizations (FTOs).
The announcement emphasizes that Hungary already designated Antifa as a terrorist organization on September 26, 2025, and placed it on its national list of terrorist organizations.
Antifa Ost – also known as Antifa East or Hammerbande – is a militant group active in Germany that carried out numerous violent attacks between 2018 and 2023, including in Budapest,
the statement said.

Ilaria Salis, a member of the group, made headlines for attacking and seriously injuring people on the street in Budapest together with other members of the organization. Nevertheless, the immunity of the MEP was not lifted. Another member of the Hammerbande and participant in the manhunt in Budapest in 2023, Simeon Ravi Trux (alias “Maja”), is currently in pre-trial detention in Hungary.
As previously mentioned, in addition to Antifa Ost, the FAI/FRI was also added to the list of terrorist organizations. This group is a militant anarchist organization that is mainly active in Italy and maintains cells in several countries in Europe, South America, and Asia. The group calls for armed struggle against “nation states” and “Fortress Europe” and has claimed responsibility for numerous bombings and threats since 2003, according to the statement.
Armed Proletarian Justice is a Greek anarchist organization that has carried out attacks on government targets using improvised explosive devices, while Revolutionary Class Self-Defense also operates in Greece and justifies its violent actions with anti-capitalist slogans.
Under the U.S. decision, the designated organizations and their members lose access to the U.S. financial system, their assets are frozen, and any activity that provides them with financial or logistical support is considered a criminal offense.
Violations of the sanctions may also result in secondary punitive measures.
According to the State Department, the decision aims to isolate and paralyze groups that commit violent acts in the name of anarchist and extreme left-wing ideologies.
András László, Member of the European Parliament (EP) for the Fidesz party, recalled in his post on X that Antifa Ost brutally beat innocent civilians on the streets of Budapest. One of their violent thugs was arrested and brought to trial. However, last year Ilaria Salis was elected to the European Parliament to grant her immunity, and her trial had to be suspended.

the politician emphasized, adding that the Patriots for Europe group had initiated the classification of Antifa as a terrorist organization in the EU.

said Fidesz MEP Ernő Schaller-Baross in his Facebook post.
Back in September, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced that steps would be taken to classify Antifa as a terrorist organization in Hungary.

Antifa is not a political movement, but a network of violence,“
said Balázs Orbán, the Prime Minister’s political director. For this reason, the Patriots for Europe faction has launched an initiative to have the European Parliament classify Antifa as a terrorist organization. “No more double standards: now that the United States of America has taken action, it is time for Europe to prove that it takes its values seriously,” demanded the politician.
