4iG’s space industry subsidiary and Northrop Grumman signed a space and defense industry agreement on Tuesday. Northrop Grumman will supply Hungary’s first geostationary communications satellite to 4iG. Representatives of the American company arrived in Budapest with Vice President J.D. Vance’s delegation.
4iG’s subsidiary, 4iG Space and Defense Technologies Ltd., has signed a space and defense industry agreement with the American company Northrop Grumman. The ceremonial signing of the agreement took place during the visit of the U.S. Vice President’s delegation to Budapest.
Today is historic in many ways, not only because of Vice President J.D. Vance’s visit to Hungary, but also because Artemis II set a record—for which Northrop Grumman, which participated in the rocket’s development, also deserves congratulations – said István Sárhegyi, Chairman and CEO of 4iG Space and Defense Technologies Ltd.
The latest collaboration between the American and Hungarian companies is linked to 4iG’s HUSAT program, which aims to develop Hungary’s space industry capabilities.
As part of the agreements announced on the stock exchange’s website, Northrop Grumman will supply Hungary’s first geostationary communications satellite (HUGEO). The satellite, built on the GEOStar-3 platform—which has already proven itself in previous missions—is expected to be delivered by 2030 and represents the largest international industrial collaboration to date under the HUSAT program.

The two companies have also expanded their framework agreement signed in the fall of 2025; as part of this, in addition to space industry projects, they will launch joint programs in the fields of counter-UAS (C-UAS) systems, advanced weapon technologies, and precision guidance systems.
“Today is a big day for U.S.-Hungarian relations and for our company,” said Stephen O’Bryan, president and global business development director of Northrop Grumman International, in his speech.
According to the senior representative of the American company, the partnership with 4iG and similar collaborations will be fruitful for the company in the long term, as it has already played a role in the implementation of the Apollo space projects in the United States, in addition to Artemis II.
The Hungarian space and defense industry company has also reached agreements with other members of the U.S. business delegation that arrived in Budapest with Vice President J.D. Vance.
4iG SDT and Apex Technology, Inc. have agreed on the terms for establishing a joint venture focused on the mass production of small satellites. The goal of the collaboration is to develop a manufacturing model optimized for the needs of satellite constellations, which applies the standardized and scalable mass production approach proven in the automotive industry to satellite manufacturing. As a result of this collaboration, a satellite manufacturing capacity unique in Europe could be established, capable of meeting the rapidly expanding constellation demands of the global satellite market.

4iG SDT would use L3Harris’s technological solutions to integrate Lockheed Martin’s HIMARS rocket launcher system onto Tatra 6×6 military trucks manufactured by Rába, within the framework of the HUMARS program. The program may be implemented under the U.S. government’s Foreign Military Sales (FMS) system, for which the Hungarian Defense Forces has already submitted the necessary application.
The agreement also aims to have L3Harris join regional defense industry digitalization projects as a strategic technology partner, leveraging its battlefield-tested tactical communications and networking systems.
Through networks specialized in modernizing the armed forces’ encrypted communication, simulation, and training systems, 4iG SDT would integrate modern defense solutions using L3Harris’s NATO-compatible technologies. L3Harris also supplies similar solutions to the German Army’s (Bundeswehr) digitalization program, for example.
The 4iG Group’s U.S. partnerships, ranging from its investment in Axiom Space to collaborations with Lockheed Martin, L3Harris, Northrop Grumman, and Apex, represent a unified strategic direction: the company aims to strengthen its role in transatlantic space and defense industry collaborations, as well as to expand Hungary’s sovereign defense industry and space technology capabilities.
4iG shares rose 0.8% on Tuesday morning. The company’s share price has fallen 37% since the beginning of the year.
