    Following a Defense Council meeting, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced in a Facebook video on Wednesday that he has ordered the strengthening of protections for critical energy infrastructure.

    The prime minister said that the Defense Council meeting, which he had convened due to the Ukrainian oil blockade, had just ended; and that no oil has been arriving in Hungary via the Druzhba pipeline since January 27.

    “The data clearly shows that this unprecedented shutdown is not due to technical reasons, but political ones, with the Ukrainian government using the oil blockade to put pressure on Hungary and Slovakia,” he said.

    The head of government also stated that,

    after reviewing reports from the national security services, he believes Ukraine is preparing additional measures to disrupt Hungary’s energy system.

    “I have therefore ordered the strengthening of the protection of critical energy infrastructure.

    This means that we will deploy soldiers and the necessary equipment to repel attacks in the vicinity of key energy facilities. The police will patrol the areas around designated power plants, distribution stations, and control centers with increased forces. In Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, I have ordered a ban on drone flights,”

    the prime minister said, listing the measures.

    “Hungary cannot be blackmailed,” PM Orbán declared.
