Police in Fairfax County, Virginia, are trying to catch a group of burglars who have been smashing their way into local restaurants since the summer.
In a news release issued Wednesday, police shared photos and a video of one of the nine incidents that have occurred since mid-July that police believe are all connected to the same crew.
Video footage also shows the latest incident, which occurred Oct. 8 at Hook & Reel Cajun Seafood & Bar on S. Jefferson Street in the Bailey’s Crossroads area. The video shows a white vehicle backing into a parking space directly in front of the restaurant. Three masked individuals exit the vehicle. One carries a cinderblock, which is then hurled through the glass door before all three enter the building and are seen taking the drawer from a cash register.
The group then gets back into the vehicle and speeds away.
“There was only about $200 in the register, so they didn’t get much. But they cost us about $1,000 in damages,” manager Nate Charway told WTOP. “It’s not worth it because it’s hurting the community.”
In one case, the burglars broke into a Chipotle in Lincolnia but were not successful in getting any cash.
“For them, it’s not worth it. You’re throwing your life away for pennies,” Charway said. “Hopefully, they get caught.”
