This DC project would ‘extend’ the Lincoln Memorial out to the Potomac River
Follow WTOP’s Matt Kaufax as he explores hidden gems, local landmarks and unique stories across the D.C. area every week. New episodes of WTOP’s “Matt About Town” segment are released each Tuesday and Thursday.
In light of President Donald Trump’s administration’s recent reveal of its plans for the triumphal arch near the Memorial Bridge, WTOP dives deep into yet another proposed project the in the same vicinity.
The focus of Thursday’s episode of “Matt About Town” is the “Promenade,” which would connect the back of the Lincoln Memorial to the Potomac River.
The Trump administration wants to build a bridge over Rock Creek Parkway to connect things, and believe it or not, the idea to do this has been around for more than a hundred years.
If the “Promenade” idea sounds familiar, it’s because it’s been mentioned in 20th century planning documents for the District. And you might’ve also heard it discussed on a previous episode of “Matt About Town” all the way back in January 2025.
Which leads us to wonder … is the president watching WTOP?
Hear “Matt About Town” first every Tuesday and Thursday on 103.5 FM.
“Matt About Town” is now also on YouTube. Follow @WTOPNewsDC and @TheMattAboutTown to subscribe and get the latest episodes wherever you are!
If you have a story idea you’d like Matt to cover, email him, or chat with him on Instagram and TikTok.
