[2026 Presidential Selection] Public Comments for Policy Speeches Open for Submission 2026

Public comments concerning questions for second-stage candidates are now available for submission by UTokyo-affiliated students, faculty, and staff via a form posted on the UTokyo Portal and UTAS bulletin. The form will be open for submission until 17:00 on 30 April.

The collected public comments will be used as a reference by the University President Screening & Inspection Committee to draft common questions for second-stage candidates to respond to in their policy speeches. The 15-minute policy speech videos — set to be published in early September — will likely dedicate approximately five minutes to addressing the questions.

The Committee of Representatives, composed of delegates from each academic organisation (all divisions across the university), will nominate up to 10 candidates and the Administrative Council will nominate approximately two candidates for the first stage of screening. Through interviews conducted by the University President Screening & Inspection Committee, three to five candidates will be selected for the second stage, where policy speech videos will be made public to all UTokyo students, faculty, and the Administrative Council. The previous presidential election (2020) did not include policy speech videos. They are being implemented this year with the goal of assisting faculty in casting their opinion vote, while also aiding the University President Screening & Inspection Committee in its final selection of the next university president. 【Translator・柑】
